Dqae Qare Bushman Community Game Farm

This Bushman community game farm is situated in the Kalahari Desert on the far Western side of Botswana. It is a tourism project that has been set up to specifically assist the Bushmen (or San ) adjust to the economic and social changes affecting them. With their indigenous knowledge of the Kalahari and their legendary tracking ability, tourists are encouraged to expand their knowledge of this unique, culturally distinct, people group. Come and spend some time on the farm, interacting with the participants, seeing social development taking place, listening to the Bushmans history, whilst also enjoying the diverse, environmentally unique, surroundings of the Kalahari Desert.

The farm is situated on the Ghanzi - Maun road, 22 Km North of Ghanzi and 11 Km South of the village of D'Kar. At the farm we offer extremely comfortable guest room accommodation, each with an en-suite bathroom. Here clients can relax in the undisturbed environment of the Kalahari and in the evenings enjoy sitting around a small fire listening to the cry of jackals under a starlit sky. We also offer camping facilities at a secluded, shady area of the farm near a natural water pan. Here there are water taps and ablution facilities complete with hot and cold water showers. If you really want to 'unwind' and 'get away from it all' for a few days then this is the place to do it.

Eco- cultural activities we offer include the guided Bushwalks where Bushman guides introduce you to the infinite variety of plants, seeds, berries and roots of the veld that have been used by them for countless generations. They will also tell you about the different animal tracks, their spoor and which species of game prefer which environment etc. If you enjoy this type of experience then why not plan to sleep in one of our Bushman huts and spend a night re-living this unique way of life. We also offer traditional dancing and storytelling that has been passed down through generations. Game drives are available on the farm to see Gemsbok, Eland, Red Hartebeest, Kudu, Zebra, Impala, Blue Wildebeest and Giraffe as well as numerous bird species.

Above all we want to introduce our visitors to the culture and knowledge of us, the Bushmen. Here, we call ourselves the Ncoakhoe which means "The red people" in our language, Naro. We are proud of our rich heritage and are trying to face the challenge of living in today's world without completely losing our culture in the process. We welcome all visitors to the project and look forward to spending time with them, sharing cultures and learning from each other. When leaving the farm you should take the opportunity to visit D'Kar village where you can visit the Bushman cultural centre, the internationally renowned art project, the museum and other small income generating projects, run by the Kuru Development Trust. In addition, you can purchase unique Bushman craft such as ostrich bead necklaces, hunting sets, decorated ostrich eggs, wall hangings and wooden toys from the craftshop. There is also a small, overnight stay campsite at D'Kar which also has ablution facilities and hot water showers.
