Leather products

Leather products can be obtained from Kuru only. Our tannery works with material straight from the target area in the district.

CHAIRS

Using metal frames, sheets of tanned leather are customised to make chairs. The fishing stool tripod is a triangular sheet of leather with fittings to hold three metal legs. The folding safari chair is a low-seater, without armrests, ideal for camping. The directors chairs are sturdy leather-covered chairs with armrests and an upright back.

HORSERIDING GEAR

The tannery also produces harnesses, bridles and saddles. Items for use on donkeys are also available. We make saddlebags which hang from both sides of the animal.

BELTS

By working long straps of leather, stitching and printing them, sturdy belts are produced. The belts come in different lengths and widths. The buckles are solid metal, either richly decorated or plain, coloured silver or gold.

HATS AND CAPS

The Kalahari sun is extremely fierce. Our tannery produces won-derful cowboy hats. These hats come in brown or black leather. Also, full leather caps are made, finished with fine weaving of flat strips of leather.

BAGS

Our leather workers make schoolbags that last a lifetime, made out of thick sheets of leather and stitched to perfection. These bags easily hold both small and large loads of goods. A smaller version of the bag is also available. The round bags were originally used for carrying water, but make perfect ladies bags. The small variety of the bag either perfectly fits around a standard size cooldrink can (serving as a cooler) or small personal items (serving as a mini-purse).

OTHER ITEMS

The keyring has a leather label attached to it, in the shape of Botswana, the map of Africa, a large key, a heart etc. The knifeholders come in different shapes and sizes, with a fixed strap to attach them to a trouser-belt.
